Authorities in the UK covered up the infected-bloodscandal, knowingly exposing victims to unacceptable risks, a report has said.

The five-year investigation accused doctors, thegovernment, and the NHS of letting patients catch HIV and hepatitis.

More than 30,000 people were infected, from 1970 to1991, by contaminated blood products andtransfusions, and about 3,000 have died.

Sir Brian Langstaff, who chaired the inquiry, said thescale of the scandal was "horrifying" and theauthorities had been too slow to respond to the risks.
