Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei hasannounced five days of mourning, following the deathof the country's president in a helicopter crash.

Ebrahim Raisi, along with Foreign Minister HosseinAmir-Abdollahian and six other people, were killedwhen the helicopter they were travelling in crashed in amountainous area of north-western Iran.

Ayatollah Khamenei said he offered his condolences"to the dear people of Iran".

Vice-President Mohammad Mokhber has beenappointed to assume interim duties after the death ofthe president, and he will also work to prepare for apresidential election within 50 days - a period of timeset out in Iran's constitution for replacing a presidentwho dies in office.
