These organs are removed while the babies are still alive – without anaesthesia – so that their cells can be used for vaccine development, despite the availability of other method options. Their organs are harvested and exploited for purposes of biomedical research and this practice continues because we choose to ignore the lack of ethical principles surrounding vaccines, says Albarracín.
