On May 19, Georgia President Salome Zourabichvili vetoed the “Russian law” targeting media. The controversial law sparked massive protests and even saw protesters trying to barge into the parliament. Zourabichvili said the legislation contradicted Georgia’s Constitution and “all European standards,” adding it “must be abolished.” However, the ruling party, Georgian Dream, has a majority sufficient to override Zourabichvili’s veto and is widely expected to do so in the coming days.
