He immediately took it and sharpened the tip on one side. On the other hand, he made it like a hook. He named it 'Safety Pin'. W. R. He sold it to Grace and Company for $400. The 'safety pin' was patented on April 10, 1849. Within a few years, the Grace Company produced pinnies on a large scale and became a multi-million dollar business.
