Sveriges Television AB, abbreviated to SVT, is the Swedish national public television broadcaster since it launched on September 4, 1956. The network took its name from Radiotjänst when it premiered on television, and the aforementioned radio network launched on January 1, 1925; this was renamed to Sveriges Radio in 1957, and the television network followed their footsteps the same year (Sveriges Radio is the national publicly funded radio broadcaster in Sweden). On December 5, 1969, SVT2 was launched which led to the renaming of Sveriges TV to SVT1. The Swedish public broadcasting system is largely modelled after the system used in the United Kingdom, and Sveriges Television shares many traits with its British counterpart, the BBC. Sveriges Television provided the only Swedish television available to the public from 1956-87, when the Swedish language satellite television channel TV3 was launched in the latter year. SVT has several sister channels, which are featured in the video (e.g. SVT24 and SVT Barn; Kunskapskanalen, operated by Sveriges Television (SVT) and Sveriges Utbildningsradio (UR), will be featured in a future video I may or may not do.. SVT is the biggest TV network in Sweden as of June 2024, with an audience share of 36.4 percent.
