The Symbolism of Deep Purple, Violet And the Emperor and Empress in the Tarot

A second figurative death occurs for very few on the spiritual path, far more profound and far more important spiritually than rebirth, and this ‘death’ is called ‘Annihilation’ or Ego-death. After ‘Ego death’, one figuratively becomes an "Emperor" or "Empress", but not a mundane one, a spiritual one. The strong sense of a separate self must ‘die’, figuratively speaking, and one must be "resurrected" . In mundane symbolism, Tyrian purple was the "imperial" colour, because Tyrian purple dye, was and is, extremely expensive. But spiritually, the Tarot Emperor and Empress represent the highest roles a human can achieve. The colour purple may be used, but it is not Tyrian purple, indeed it does not even have to be purple, as such the Tarot role has no symbolic connection with wealth or power. And it would be wrong to mix the mundane meaning of the words Emperor and Empress with the spiritual meaning that the Tarot uses. The Tarot Emperor and Empress are human but "divine" - "they have let go of everything and discovered the kind of faith that can pass through the darkest moments...." If they succeed, the rest of their life is spent as an "immortal"... a Seer - a wise man or woman - of the highest order, divine.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE GROUP DEEP PURPLE?
"Deep Purple" was the biggest hit written by pianist Peter DeRose. DeRose was a musician and composer, and "Deep Purple" ended up being his most famous song. It was written in 1934 as a piano composition, the lyrics were added later.
The group Deep Purple is named after this song, as it was a favourite of one of the group's grannies.
But Peter DeRose might have known a bit more than we realise as his other songs include “Who Do You Know in Heaven?”, “God of Battles”, “I Hear a Forest Praying”, and “God is Ever Beside Me”.
