Can I Title An Export Only Vehicle?
One common call our sales department receives concerns export-only titles. These often appear at Copart or IAA, and buyers are confused by the "clean title export only" label. Although it says "clean title," it can't be titled or registered in the U.S.
Here’s why: Vehicles labeled as salvage or junk can't be exported in one piece due to Customs regulations. To circumvent this, insurance companies designate such cars as "export only," meaning they can leave the country whole but can't be titled domestically. Even if a DMV employee says you can title it based on the clean title, the system will reject it when processed.
If you're exporting outside the U.S., this might not be an issue. However, beware that salvage or junk vehicles, often listed as such at auctions, must be dismantled before export. Always verify the export rules and vehicle status to avoid complications.
