019: Navigating Government Self-Interest: A Conversation with Fergus Hodgson
Welcome to another episode of "Dialogue over Division." Today, we are joined by Fergus Hodgson, an independent economic consultant with an impressive background. Fergus is the former editor-in-chief of the PanAm Post and has served as the director of fiscal policy studies at the John Locke Foundation in North Carolina. He holds a BA in economics and a graduate diploma in political science.
In this episode, we delve into the critical importance of understanding government actions as self-interested individuals and how that impacts us both individually and as a nation. We examine how Ottawa-centric media has contributed to the distorted nature of information in the country. Throughout, Fergus emphasizes the significance of promoting personal sovereignty and the crucial role of civic engagement.
We also explore the factors that led to Canada's current state, including the events leading up to the 2022 trucker convoy—a pivotal moment when many Canadians reached their limits. Many viewed the COVID-19 mandates as the last straw amid rising living costs, indebtedness, taxes, and vanishing opportunities and civil liberties, uniting in the common cause against government overreach.
Recently, Fergus co-authored the book "Financial Sovereignty for Canadians," available on Amazon. This book, co-authored with Paz Gómez, assists those looking to take direct action and circumvent illiberalism. It details Canada's economic trajectory, explains how to protect your independence, and offers escapes from the status quo.
Join us for an enlightening conversation that sheds light on the economic and political dynamics shaping Canada today.
This podcast series is your guide to becoming a more informed and engaged citizen. It's a call to action for you to take an active role in maintaining the vitality of our democracy.
