Temperance in the Tarot

Temperance (XIV) is the fourteenth trump card in most Tarot decks. It is almost invariably depicted as a ‘person’ pouring liquid from one receptacle into another. Various card designers have then added symbols to the water pouring. There is even religious imagery that classifies lack of Temperance as a “sin”, without giving any explanation of why it is a "sin". But the real reason it is a "sin", is that it affects one’s ability to have any form of spiritual input. In this video we explain why "Temperance" is not just some religious notion, but it has a rational explanation if one wants to receive helpful spiritual input eg wisdom inspiration and healing. If we are not temperate and lead a life of excess, the implication is that we may lose inspiration, have to work ourselves into the ground to gain knowledge when we could have had wisdom, and we become ill because we never receive enough healing. There is also an additional disadvantage, explained in The Bhagavad Gita , we are flung back, rather unceremoniously, on the wheel of life. We do not "ascend". These are all symbolic terms, but they are intended to capture the idea that on the rim of the wheel we are simply born into a human or animal life that is the same or possibly worse than the one we have. But ascension places us on gradually higher planes of existence.
