The Cape lion

The Cape lion (Panthera leo melanochaitus) was a large lion that lived in South Africa's Natal and Cape provinces in the mid-19th century. It was hunted to extinction by Dutch and English settlers, hunters, and sportsmen in the mid-1800s.
