Black on White Crime: Memphis TN

One hundred days into the year 2024, homicides in #Memphis have topped 100, according to Memphis Police.

The city council and the city’s mayor announced they will create an independent body to address crime, based on plans developed by the city of Atlanta. MPD officials told Memphis City Council in a presentation Tuesday that the city was on pace for 391 homicides this year.

MPD’s homicide clearance rate is 53%, compared to an average of 54% nationally, they said. “We have a state legislative problem with these guns,” Councilwoman Yolanda Cooper-Sutton said. “State legislators hate us here in Memphis, Tennessee, and they hate black folks in Memphis, Tennessee, and that’s just point blank. Because it’s us that’s killing each other.”
