One of Blyton's most widely known characters is Noddy, however, her books include the Famous Five series of 21 novels, and The Secret Seven with 17 novels. These books are children's adventure stories, incorporating mystery and fantasy, sometimes involving magic. Blyton's literary output was of an estimated 800 books. But what few people know is that she had an extremely profound spiritual experience whilst at the dentist, as she came round from having had gas. A spiritual experience which she never forgot.

The illustrations from the Noddy books were by Harmsen van der Beek, for example, “-the-clockwork-clown-kept-going-head-over-heels”
Eelco Martinus ten Harmsen van der Beek (October 8, 1897 in Amsterdam – July 24, 1953 in Blaricum) was a Dutch illustrator and commercial artist. Abroad, he is best remembered for his illustration of Enid Blyton's Noddy books. Van der Beek simply signed his work as "Beek". Beek's death in 1953 led to a few new illustrators for the Noddy books, amongst which was his assistant Peter Wienk.
