"Psychometric researches and discoveries" by William and Elizabeth Denton

Professor William Denton (1823-1883) of Wellesley, Massachusetts, was a naturalist, explorer and geologist. His wife was called Elizabeth. William himself was born in West Yorkshire, England. The Dentons as a family were great collectors and lovers of butterflies and they travelled the world as a family collecting them. But, Elizabeth Denton became fascinated by the whole subject of imprinted perceptions on objects - psychometry.

The observations include one for Mrs. Anne Denton, where the object enables her to be an eye witness of ‘ great scenes in geologic epochs and- in the life of primitive men, and prehistoric groups in different centres of civilization’.

In other words the people who handled the pots and tools. She was given a piece of volcanic tufa from Pompeii, “all precautions having been taken that she should be in entire ignorance of-the nature and origin of the object” and her description of the actual eruption was dramatic.
