An Introduction to Synaesthesia

Synaesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one of the 5 sensory pathways - taste, touch, hearing, vision and smell - leads to involuntary experiences in another sensory pathway. People who have such experiences are known as synaesthetes. In a study in Scotland nearly 4.5% of those sampled had synaesthesia.
