Cincy Pop Shop offers grants for small retail businesses

Inventory from Corless Berry's home business was taking over her living room and dining room. Now, she has one of the city's newest pop-up shops on Cedar Avenue in College Hill.  The City of Cincinnati is trying to help small businesses move out of homes and into permanent spaces. They offer grants of up to $1,000 to help with rent and other non-structural needs.  "What it means for me is an opportunity to actually really experience my passion," Berry said.  Berry's boutique, Chozen 4 U, had its grand opening about a week ago. She will have retail space for her designer clothing for at least four months.  "I just want to really make an impact on women and their style of dress," Berry said.  Berry was able to open the shop with a grant from the city's department of community and economic development. It's a way to increase opportunities for small businesses in city neighborhoods.  The space was a clean canvas. Berry said it was perfect for what she wanted to do.
