On Tuesday, Boy Scouts of America, an organization which existed for 114 years before feeling the need to publicly distance itself from the word “Boy,” announced that as of February 8, 2025, its corporate name will change to Scouting America.

  • Why not cut to the chase and call the new outfit 'Grooming America"? A great, if somber, video record of America's careering decline and fall into chaos, Jim. Your insights marked with a melancholy both rueful and ruthless. Currently in free-fall, the West's cultural decay is now, of course, unstoppable. Even the great and seemingly permanently optimistic Jared Taylor now declares it's over, and that only a portion of the States can be saved. A Greater Idaho? Maybe. But would 'they' allow it? Hard to say? Another civil war. Probably at some stage. As for the scouts: I confess I never liked the organisation - not because of the threat of pedos, but because of their (perceived) moral primness here in Britain at the time (I'm 66 year old [dissident] Boomer, btw). It wasn't that the virtues the scouts espoused weren't admirable, rather that they stood for them a little too sanctimoniously. But it was probably different in The States. Indeed, that scout camp footage reminded me of nothing so much as a sepia AI reproduction of a Union military camp prior to Gettysburg! All that said, I passionately share your sense of a sort of mute heartbreak evoked by looking back at the memorabilia and paraphernalia of the past (in this case the Scout movement). In this context I was at a spring fair the other day where there were Morris Dancers (in the rain of course, this being England): formerly I used to laugh at what I automatically construed as a form of out-moded cultural naivety; but this time they brought a lump to the throat as I realised the joke was on me; that my culture really was lost, that everything was lost. The rest of the fair, little boys and girls on old-fashioned merry-go-rounds, a brass band, etc, really just rubbed salt in the cultural wound. - Well, the Phoenix will rise again, I'm sure, but not in my lifetime.
