Screen Rant presents the trailer for the upcoming thriller Shadow Land, starring Jon Voight as a former president.
President Wainwright's dreams add a unique layer to the thriller, questioning his sanity and trustworthiness unlike other presidential films.
Director James Banford's stunt performer background may add an exciting element to Shadow Land's tension and action sequences.
Shadow Land is a new thriller starring Academy Award winner Jon Voight, and Screen Rant has a first look at the trailer. From Republic Pictures, Shadow Land was directed by James Bamford (Arrow, NCIS: Hawai’i) and written by Ian Corson. The movie tells the story of a former president, played by Voight, who is haunted by dreams of being assassinated and discovers a conspiracy to discredit his presidency.

Screen Rant is happy to present the trailer for Shadow Land, which hints at the kinds of tension, twists, and turns that are a key element of many of the best thriller movies. It also showcases the film’s cast, which—along with Voight—includes Marton Csokas (The Equalizer, The Last Duel) and Rhona Mitra (The Last Ship, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans). Take a look at the trailer, below, and get ready to watch Shadow Land when it is released in select theaters on May 31 and can be seen on digital platforms on June 4.

What Sets Shadow Land Apart From Other Movies About U.S. Presidents
There are many movies about U.S. presidents, but the Shadow Land trailer seems to offer a new twist on the subject in a few ways. The synopsis of the movie states that Voight’s President Wainwright uncovers a conspiracy to discredit his presidency and that he and his advisor work to get to the bottom of it without exposing a crisis from his time in office. The legacy of a former president is an interesting subject to tackle, especially if it has to do with that president reckoning with questionable actions taken while in office.

The other thread that seems to be evident in the trailer above is that of President Wainwright’s dreams. It appears as though the character’s sanity is in question by other characters, if not the audience itself, throughout the movie. With many well-known movies featuring presidents generally portraying them as highly competent or incompetent, the idea of a former president whose mind may or may not be trusted is relatively unique to Shadow Land.

James Bamford also likely approached Shadow Land with a unique eye given the director’s long history as a stunt performer. His impressive resume as a stunt performer and/or coordinator includes Elysium, X-Men: The Last Stand, Arrow, and Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn. Shadow Land doesn’t appear to be as action-packed as movies like White House Down, but when its tension explodes into action of any kind, Banford’s history of working on that side of filmmaking could very well come into play.
"Every second of every day you make a choice that can change your life." Sony Classics posted an updated 2024 official trailer for the 4K re-release of this German classic Run Lola Run, which originally debuted in 1998 some 26 years ago. Anyone who loves cinema already knows and has seen this movie, and it's still as thrilling & exciting to watch today as it was back then. It played at Sundance 1999 (and won the Audience Award there) and also screened at the 1998 Venice & Toronto Film Festivals. After her boyfriend botches a money handover, Lola has 20 minutes to bring 100,000 DM to him or he robs a store. If the money is not returned, there will be consequences. We see three possible scenarios, depending on Lola's encounters. She races through the streets of Berlin to find the money and bring it to him on the other side of the city before it's too late. Franka Potente and Moritz Bleibtru star in Tykwer's kinetic Berlin thriller. While the film initially premiered 26 years ago, they're celebrating the 25th anniversary of its original US opening in 1999. Roger Ebert gave the film 3 stars in his original review: "I would not want to see a sequel to the film, and at 81 minutes it isn't a second too short, but what it does, it does cheerfully, with great energy, and very well."

Review: David Leitch's 'The Fall Guy' is a Stunt-Filled Blast and a Half
By Alex Billington
The Fall Guy Review
Making movies these days seems even more challenging than ever. Throwing tons of money at and/or hiring the most famous actors doesn't automatically make a movie good. It doesn't even mean that the movie will be (financially) successful anymore. One of the greatest challenges of successful filmmaking is balancing all of the artistic elements in just the right way - it has to have a great script, actors with the right chemistry not to meniton strong performances, striking visuals, the right pacing, everything else. This isn't easy to pull off. Sometimes a filmmaker does get it just right and it makes for blissful entertainment. The Fall Guy is one of those movies. I am so glad that it lives up to its potential, to all the early hype, and lives up to the concept itself - which is meant to shine light on all of the behind-the-scenes stuntman / stuntwoman work that goes into making action movies. Even though this is technically a remake / movie version of the 1980s TV series of the same name, it feels like a singular work designed by stuntmen as a fun-for-everyone summer smash. It also feels like a landmark moment in teaching audiences about how their favorite movies are really made.

Another 'Sneak Peek' Trailer for JLo's Mech Suit Sci-Fi Thriller 'Atlas'
By Alex Billington
Atlas Featurette
"Bring Atlas Shepherd into this op is a spectacularly awful idea." Netflix has debuted another new trailer labeled as a "sneak peek" for the Atlas movie, starring Jennifer Lopez. Arriving to watch streaming on Netflix later this May. We've already posted two official trailers for this movie so far. Will another convince anyone to watch? Atlas is set in a bleak future, where an A.I. soldier has determined that the only way to end war is to end humanity. Lopez plays a data analyst with a deep distrust of A.I., who is taken on a mission to capture a renegade robot. When plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it. Co-starring Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Gregory James Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, & Mark Strong. Another artificial intelligence-related sci-fi movie, since it's the big tech trend of the moment, there have to be movies about it. This one seems a bit awkward with JLo having to to learn to "trust" her AI software known as "Smith" but let's see... At least it looks cool! Will the rest of it be any good?

It's a 1960s-set tale of two men, their pride, greed and bromance. Created and directed by Shin Yeon-shick. Starring Song Kang-ho, Byun Yo-han, Lee Kyu-hyung, Jin Ki-joo, and Seo Hyun-woo. By Alex Billington
STAX: Soulsville U.S.A. Trailer
"We were on top of the world." HBO Docs has unveiled the trailer for a documentary series titled STAX: Soulsville U.S.A., arriving for streaming later this month. This docu series from HBO "captures how an underdog record label launched a movement and superstar musicians like Isaac Hayes and Otis Redding." The Memphis soul sound that electrified the world... In 1960s Memphis, an audacious set of interracial collaborators dared to make their own music on their own terms, forming Stax Records, one of America's most influential creators of Black music. At the peak of its success, Stax artists commemorated the Watts Rebellion by playing to over 100,000 African Americans at the 1972 benefit concert Wattstax. During an era of major social turbulence, systemic inequity, racial tensions, Stax saw stunning artistic & cultural success, and managed to rebound from repeated business setbacks & losses before the studio ultimately dissolved after 15 pioneering years. With appearances by Otis Redding, Estelle Axton, Al Bell, Steve Cropper, Isaac Hayes, Booker T. Jones, Sam Moore, & Deanie Parker. Looks like a lovely tribute to Stax and all their artists.

Benedict Cumberbatch in 80s NYC + Puppets Series 'Eric' Full Trailer
By Alex Billington
Eric Trailer
"Don't give up on him" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a very dark, emotional drama series titled Eric, the latest creation from award-winning British writer Abi Morgan (of Shame, The Iron Lady, Suffragette, "The Split", "All About Marriage"). Set for a streaming debut on Netflix later in May. Vincent, a grief-stricken father whose son goes missing, finds solace through his friendship with Eric, the monster that lives under Edgar's bed. It's set in NYC in the 1980s and features "puppets...lots of puppets." Netflix's Eric mini-series stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Gaby Hoffmann, and McKinley Belcher III. It follows the desperate search of a father when his nine year old son disappears one morning on the way to school. "As Vincent’s progressively destructive behaviour alienates his family, his work colleagues, and the detectives trying to help him, it’s Eric, a delusion of necessity, who becomes his only ally in the pursuit to bring his son home." The cast also includes Dan Fogler and Clarke Peters. This looks dark and gritty and strange and emotional! Not an easy thing to pull off. It sort of reminds me of Where the Wild Things Are but in 80s NY.

Watch: Wes Anderson Directed This Funny Commercial for Montblanc
By Alex Billington
Wes Anderson's Montblanc Commercial
"in the morning, by the way, we'll all three ski back down to base camp after breakfast." What a surprise! There's another new Wes Anderson short film now out online for everyone to enjoy. It turns out Anderson has directed a funny 3-minute short film commercial for the uber fancy German pen company Montblanc. They just debuted it online and it's absolutely worth a quick watch. You have to see what Wes cooked up for them! He even appears in this one! The short is celebrating 100 years of the pen called the Meisterstück, that was first introduced by the company in 1924. Which actually is quite remarkable! "An ode to individual style and mastery." The film stars Rupert Friend, Jason Schwartzman, and Wes Anderson as three Montblanc fans (or perhaps aficionados?) who take refuge in a mountain cabin near the real Mont Blanc to discuss their love for and appreciation of Montblanc pens. As lovely as they are, they're definitely out of my price range. Even if this is all just obvious advertising, it's still amusing seeing these three together in a film.
