Californians could pay more for electricity after state panel vote.

The $24.15-per-month charge, approved by the state Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom as a budget revision in 2022, was solidified by a 4-0 vote from the California Public Utilities Commission on Thursday.

As CalMatters notes, there are also $6- and $12-per-month tiers for lower-income people. The fee is intended to be offset by lower rates for power used, about 5 to 7 cents per kilowatt hour, according to state Capitol reporter Eytan Wallace
