An Indianapolis girl and a police officer were attacked by a stray dog on the city's northwest side Monday morning. The incident happened in the 6100 block of Cooper Road at about 9 a.m. An officer with Indianapolis Animal Care Services says a 7-year-old girl was leaving her home to wait for the school bus when the dog jumped on her and bit her on the face. The girl was taken to the hospital with a puncture wound to her upper lip and bite mark on her cheek that did not puncture the skin. She was treated at St. Vincent Hospital but is expected to be okay.  An officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department who responded to the scene was also bitten on the hand by the dog when he tried to catch it. That officer went to a nearby clinic to get treated for three to four puncture wounds on his hand.
