Israeli singer Eden Golan has qualified for the final ofthe Eurovision Song Contest after a public vote.

Her victory came hours after thousands ofpro-Palestinian protestors gathered in the streets ofMalmö, Sweden, where the contest is being held, to show their support for Gaza.

The night before, the 20-year-old singer had beenbooed during dress rehearsals. There was a mixture ofcheering and booing again during Thursday's semi-final.

Israel's participation in Eurovision has been a sourceof controversy amid rising civilian deaths and aworsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, after Israellaunched a response to Hamas' cross-border attack onsouthern Israel on 7 October.
