Dogs react strangely to plenty of objects that we would consider relatively mundane. We have seen dogs that are afraid of trash bags, their own toys, blankets and other everyday normal items.

Dogs are always on alert so they can protect their families from potential threats…

The dog in this video absolutely hates a statue of Jesus in his neighbor’s yard. In the video, you can hear the woman filming saying that he barks and growls at the statue every time they pass it. We were curious why a dog might be freaked out by a statue. It is hard topic to research mostly in the sense that no one has really asked that question before. However, we did some extrapolation and think we have an answer to this particular dog’s dislike of his neighbor’s statue. The obvious part is that dog’s do not see the world like we do or always have the necessary knowledge to understand a foreign thing.

However, this dog took that alert a bit TOO far. He is scared of THAT?

We think the dog is actually reacting to the statue as though it is a living human. Dogs can’t quite tell the difference between a human living figure and a fake. Part of the problem with this statue is that he is looking down with unblinking eyes. Dogs take direct eye contact stares as a sign of confrontation. This dog is responding to the confrontation by refusing to back down. This bit might be stretching somewhat, but I also think that the Jesus’ head position is also seen as a challenge to the dog, especially with his outstretched hand. We could be wrong but that is our guess.
