Heavy shelling has been reported in Rafah, in southernGaza, as US President Joe Biden warns Israel against a major offensive there.

Biden said if Israeli troops enter the densely-packedcity "we're not going to supply the weapons and artillery shells".

In response Israel's ambassador to the UN, GiladErdan, described it as a "very disappointing statement".

In Rafah, Scott Anderson, from the UN agency forPalestinian refugees, told the BBC the fighting ismoving towards the centre of the city.

Biden's remarks come after the US confirmed it hadalready delayed a shipment of bombs to Israel, overfears of what could happen in Rafah.

But US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the USwould continue "to ensure that Israel has the means to defend itself".
