For humans, ivermectin tablets are approved atspecific doses to treat some parasitic worms, andthere are topical (on the skin) formulations for headlice and skin conditions like rosacea. For animals,certain pour-on, injectable, paste, chewable, and"drench" ivermectin products are approved in the U.S.to treat or prevent parasites in animals.

Both chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine have in vitroactivity against SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2.29,30 Asmall cohort study without a control group suggestedthat hydroxychloroquine might reduce the risk ofSARS-CoV-2 transmission to close contacts.31 Therehave been several large trials to determine whetherhydroxychloroquine can reduce the risk of infectionafter exposure to individuals infected withSARS-CoV-2. These studies used different doseschedules and targeted different at-risk populations.In addition, some studies were unable to confirminfection using molecular or antigen tests. None ofthese studies demonstrated any evidence of efficacyfor hydroxychloroquine, and all showed a higher risk ofgenerally mild adverse events in those who received the drug.32-34
