Those who engage with the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 and the invasion at the Bay of Pigs in 1961 can still learn a great deal about covert warfare and US imperialism today. For example, politicians never honestly inform about covert warfare because it is illegal. Specifically: During the covert CIA-supported invasion of Cuba, US Secretary of State Dean Rusk was asked by the press on April 17, 1961, whether the US had anything to do with the invasion. He replied: "The American people have a right to know whether we are intervening in Cuba or intend to do so in the future. The answer to that question is no. What happens in Cuba must be decided by the Cuban people." That was a lie. Dr. Daniele Ganser has long been engaged with the Cuban Missile Crisis and presented the results in his new book "Illegal Wars" in the chapter on Cuba.
