Philippines has accused Beijing of violating an anti-wiretapping law over an alleged phone chat between a Chinese diplomat and a Filipino navy officer. Beijing claimed the recording showed Manila had agreed to a “new model” involving operation protocols in South China Sea’s Second Thomas Shoal. Meanwhile, Philippine defence secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jnr said the audio recording had violated the country’s anti-wiretapping law. Under the law, violators face imprisonment for up to six years and/or a fine of up to $100. He also said operational security measures would be strengthened due to “disinformation, malign influence and undesirable actions of agents of foreign governments”. Watch the video to find out more.
