Which Is Bait Is Better? Shromp Or Squib ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Rock Fishing Monterey, CA

In this video, I go rock fishing in Monterey CA, and catch some really nice surfperches! As usual, this spot is highly productive, I caught 4 striped surfperch, 2 of them were huge and 2 I released. I wanted to do another "For science!" video, the ones where I do bait testing and see how well they do. Haven't done one in a while so it's always a nice change of pace to mix things up, especially up here in Monterey, where the fishing is fantastic, and I mention how amazing fishing is up here all the time haha. For the shrimp vs. squid bait test, the results were 3 on shrimp bait and 1 on squid bait. Overall, shrimp won this bait testing but that doesn't mean squid lost. Squid only lost in this setting, but it's always good to familiarize yourself with what is certain species prefer. In this case, I think striped surfperch prefer shrimp, nothing is set in stone, give it a shot and see what results you might get!

#firstfishfreedom is a tradition that I started a while back. The basis for this tradition is to release the first fish you catch, regardless of what it is (prized, PB, good eats, maybe even world record someday haha). I will only keep the first fish if it is gravely wounded or gut shotted (and a species I can legally keep). If I keep the first fish, then I will pass on the tradition to the second fish, and so forth. Any day of fishing is a blessing, catching a fish and beating the skunk is another blessing on top of that, so I want to return that blessing and luck back to the fish, so they may live another day, get bigger, and maybe I catch them again in the future c:
