Disney is Doubling Down on Sequels | Ditching Original Movies

During Disney’s earnings call CEO Bob Iger said the company is going to devote more effort into producing movies with established Ips because it’s easier to market.

This latest announcement conflicts with what Bob Iger said last December when he admitted the company has been making too many sequels. This could be the result of Disney’s recent original movies such as Wish, Elemental, and Strange World doing worse than some of Disney’s other properties. However, the audience reception for upcoming movies like Mufasa: The Lion King indicates Disney may not be able to rely on their built in fanbase anymore.
