Karate Kid Breaks Board That Shoots Sparks At Teacher's Face

We have a lot of questions about this video. To start, are the kids in this video actually at a karate class? Or is it one of those things where someone with knowledge shows up and teaches a bunch of kids a fractional amount about their hobby or career, in this case martial arts. The main question though has to do with the board that the kid breaks. Obviously, the board is pre-cut so that kids can break it and feel powerful but the sparks? Was it supposed to spark? And if so, why? Maybe this kid really is that powerful.
