Rumi, also known as Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī, was a 13th-century Persian poet, Islamic scholar, and Sufi mystic. He was born on September 30, 1207, in Balkh, which is now part of Afghanistan, and passed away on December 17, 1273, in Konya, present-day Turkey. Rumi is best known for his profound and inspirational poetry, which has been widely influential across the Muslim world and beyond.
His major work, the Mas̄navī-yi Maʿnavī ("Spiritual Couplets"), is a six-book epic that explores the themes of divine love, spiritual practice, and the quest for God. Rumi's teachings also led to the foundation of the Mawlawī Sufi order, known for the practice of whirling dances as a form of dhikr (remembrance of God).
Rumi's poetry transcends time and culture, with his works being appreciated globally for their depth and beauty. His writings have been translated into many languages and continue to inspire people around the world with their messages of love, humanity, and spiritual longing.
