Yak-141: the story of an interrupted flight

In the history of aviation, only a few aircraft have been created that can do without runways and literally soar in the air.
The Yak-141 is a supersonic multipurpose vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft. The first example of the machine was built in 1986 at the Yakovlev Design Bureau.

The highlight of the new vertical take-off and landing aircraft was its ability to achieve supersonic flight mode, as well as the expanded composition of the weapons used. When the aircraft was placed on the deck of the naval unit, the wing consoles were folded to approximately half the entire wingspan.
Later, 12 world records were set on the new fighter, including maximum flight altitude, rate of climb with a load of 1 and 2 tons.

However, the economic crisis following the collapse of the USSR led to the closure of the project. Today this plane can only be seen in aeronautical museums scattered across Russia.
