The apostle Paul continues answering questions (the "now concerning's") he had received from the church at Corinth. In this passage he begins a discussion of Christian liberty that will continue for the next six chapters (8:1-14:1) First up is our liberty in the food we eat. Specifically, Paul will answer the question about eating meat sacrificed to idols. Paul could have simply given a "no" answer based on the decision James put forth in 49AD in what we call the Jerusalem Council. However, Paul knew the question went deeper than just what we eat. He wanted to address how our love for God and our brothers and sisters in Christ should affect our Christian liberty.
