Quran, Surah Al-Isra (17), verse 1.
Glory be to the One Who took His servant ˹Muḥammad˺ by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque whose surroundings We have blessed, so that We may show him some of Our signs.1 Indeed, He2 alone is the All-Hearing, All-Seeing.

Ibn Hisham, Al Sira Al Nabawiyah, Ch. 74.

The Farthest Mosque (Al-Masjid-ul-Aqs-a) was built many years after the death of Muhammad.

In Yusuf Ali's commentary on Q17:1 we read: "The Farthest Mosque must refer to the site of the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem..."
Yusuf Ali said that Al-Masjid-ul-Aqs-a was the second Temple of Solomon, but the temple had been completely destroyed in 70 AD, i.e. 550 years before the alleged time of the Miraj in 622 AD.

According to Bukhari, Muhammad visited Bait Al Maqdis in Jerusalem, but at that time there was no mosque at all in Jerusalem.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Regarding the Statement of Allah" "And We granted the vision (Ascension to the heavens) which We made you see (as an actual eye witness) was only made as a trial for the people." (17.60) Ibn `Abbas added: The sights which Allah's Messenger (ï·º) was shown on the Night Journey when he was taken to Bait-ulMaqdis (i.e. Jerusalem) were actual sights, (not dreams). And the Cursed Tree (mentioned) in the Qur'an is the tree of Zaqqum (itself).
