The 75th Anniversary of "Summer of no Fair"

Inside the archives at the Erie County Fair there are all sorts of treasures spanning the one hundred and seventy-eight year history of the popular Summer event. Marketing manager Marty Biniasz discovered some old photos from 1943.That year has become known as the "Summer of no fair". According to Marty "it was right in the middle of the WW II effort. In Buffalo with it's economy and it's factory, it wasn't a time to stay back and celebrate it was a time to focus on victory." Published reports from then explain that the Fair Managers wrestled with  the decision, but then eventually voted to cancel the fair. This year's 179th Erie County Fair kicks off August 8th.
