According to National Defence Magazine, experts from the Analytical Center for Aerospace Defence proposed a modular version of the Buk air defence system to bolster Russia's aerial protection against Ukrainian attacks. This modular Buk-M3 variant prioritizes enhanced surveillance and firepower over self-propelling capabilities, aiming to counter long-range weapons targeting stationary objects in Russia. The system, designed to intercept modern cruise missiles, boasts improved reconnaissance systems and the ability to engage targets at high altitudes. Additionally, researchers suggest that this modular design would effectively neutralize Western-supplied tactical and cruise missiles. However, recent reports from Ukraine claim successful destruction of Russian Buk systems, highlighting the ongoing challenges in modern warfare.
