Police can basically come up with any excuse they want to seize (steal) your money, even when you "do the right thing" and try to be honest, that policy doesn't work when dealing with thieves.
The most common excuse is claiming they "smell marijuana" and that gives them the right to search in hopes they find something else so they can further their career and destroy your future.
