Sunken Church, Tombstones Attract Tourists As Parched Philippines Dam Reveals Centuries-Old Town
1 year ago
2
Scorching temperatures in the Philippines partially dried up a major dam, revealing the ruins of a nearly 300-year-old town. Water levels at the Pantabangan dam in the Philippines dropped by 26 metres this year, currently sitting seven meters lower than a year ago. In the 1970s, the construction of a dam in the Nueva Ecija province submerged the town of Pantabangan, some 202km north of the capital, Manila. Extreme heat caused by El Nino conditions revealed parts of a sunken church, tombstones and the foundations of structures of the old Pantabangan town. Watch the video to find out how sunken town's re-emergence is attracting tourists.
