In March, gangs attacked the neighborhood of Haiti’s police chief, burning his house and killing his dog, sending a chilling message.

Despite the onslaught by armed gangs in Port-au-Prince, the police have managed to defend some government buildings, gaining newfound respect.

However, gangs still control many parts of the city, engaging in extortion and kidnapping.

The ousting of Prime Minister Ariel Henry by gangs underscores the country’s instability. While international help is awaited, Haiti’s police force struggles against gangs, facing shortages and risks, DNYUZ has reported.
