The Power of Prayer: Would God listen to an atheist?

I'm not a devout atheist; I've always kept an open mind on the existence of God and I even say the occasional prayer. I do not have an irrational hatred of religion and I raised my children as Catholics, reasoning that when they are adults they can decide for themselves what they believe. Truth be told, I'm probably the worst atheist in the world.
