Riot police in Georgia have fired tear gas and watercannons to disperse crowds protesting against a billseen by some to be targeting media freedoms.

Under the "foreign agent" bill, independent media thatreceive more than 20% of their funding from foreigndonors would have to register as organisations"bearing the interests of a foreign power".

Protesters have spent days clashing with police on thestreets of Georgia's capital Tbilisi, with somedemonstrators throwing eggs and bottles at police inretaliation of what has been called a "Russian inspired" bill.
