“Sashimono” is a technique for assembling furniture and other wooden items without nails, using both simple and highly complex wood joints.
Kumiki is a Japanese carpentry technique which means “to join wood together”. In this joinery technique, wood pieces are interlocked together without the use of nails or fasteners to form sturdy three-dimensional objects. Its application ranges from architecture to furniture to toys and homeware.
Sashimono (指物, 差物, 挿物) were small banners historically worn by soldiers in feudal Japan, for identification during battles.
