The Wish and the Woe

Beneath the boughs of the juniper tree,
A whisper of wishes, as deep as the sea.
"Red as the blood, white as the snow,
Grant me a child," she pleaded below.
Her heart then filled with joy so immense,
A son was born, the recompense.
But joy turned to ash, she fell to the dark,
Under the juniper, buried her spark.

In the stew, she hid the piece.
