On March 29, 2024, a routine day in Sparks, Nevada took a dramatic turn. At 1:39 p.m., a Sparks police officer stopped a Ford Expedition on the 1700 block of Greenbrae Drive. The vehicle, lacking license plates, became the center of an unexpected confrontation. As the officer neared the driver's window, the situation escalated drastically—the driver revealed a handgun and fired at the officer, hitting him in the shoulder.

The assailant fled, causing a collision at the intersection of Greenbrae and Rock Boulevard before abandoning the vehicle. On foot, he triggered a tense manhunt through residential Sparks, involving officers from the Sparks Police, Reno Police, and Washoe County Sheriff's Office.

The pursuit intensified as the suspect invaded homes, leading to exchanges of gunfire. One encounter left a Washoe County deputy and a civilian injured. The chaos continued until the suspect barricaded himself in a home, leading to a standoff with SWAT and negotiators.
