One Man, One Wife | Hyrum Smith | April 1844 General Conference

President Hyrum Smith speaks at the 11th General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 8, 1844. This talk was censored from the official history of the LDS Church under Brigham Young, and has recently been deleted from the Joseph Smith Papers under suspicious circumstances (see below).

The words in this recording are almost verbatim from the notes of President Hyrum Smith’s talk taken by Thomas Bullock. I lightly expanded the notes to make the spoken words flow more easily—much of the notes are not in complete sentences. Please note that in the fragmentary account we have, most of Hyrum’s 90-minute talk has been lost. The version of Bullock’s notes we have (see below) is probably copied from earlier notes that no longer exist. The modern painting of Hyrum is by Del Parson. Great job, Del!
