Achievement Spotlight
1:07:41
our achievement Spotlight the first one uh Sandy
1:07:47
sarini and Shelly chrisinger are for the state qualifying unified robotics teams
1:07:53
from Steam Academy [Applause]
1:08:03
thank you Board of Trustees and Dr Glenn we are so proud to be able to present to
1:08:08
you all the two teams who made it to the state tournament this year for unified
1:08:13
Robotics and I'm going to turn the program over to Sandy and she's going to tell you just a little bit about the
1:08:19
program and introduce our coaches who will Who will introduce our kids
1:08:27
thank you Bard for having us again we were here last year introducing our pilot unified robotics team and last
1:08:34
year we only had three teams and this year we were able to double in size to six teams and this year we had two teams
1:08:41
the steam Academy at M bro one at active Middle School one at one at granberry
1:08:46
high school and two over at granberry middle school and this year we were invited from Special Olympics to go down
1:08:54
to Austin as has a Showcase Event that was unified robotics only teams and so
1:09:00
all six of our teams were able to go down there for that competition and then we had two teams that actually Advanced
1:09:05
onto State competitions in Dallas and Garland and so we're here to highlight
1:09:10
those two teams today but I also want to give a quick recognition to Megan Gonzalez she is our Special Olympics uh
1:09:18
unified Champion um Advocate and sponsor for us and she does great things for our district so she's here to um on our
1:09:25
teams and to get us started is over at steam Academy at May bro we've got coach
1:09:31
Justin Burton to um give awards for our team here
1:09:37
right all right the first one Finn
1:09:45
Burton stay right here stay right here we have Brantley Kelly
1:09:52
[Applause] and Alum
1:10:01
web and I am just GNA I am just going to throw a little bit in real quick these guys had very little time to prep and
1:10:08
get ready for the tournament the robot was built mainly finished up right before we went to the tournament and
1:10:16
they had barely driven it and went and took first place at the tournament down in Austin to qualify for state so I'm
1:10:23
super proud of these guys because how well they did with how little time they had to prep for it so super proud thank
1:10:29
you guys you guys are [Applause]
1:10:37
great and next we have Coach Daniel Santas and Coach Aaron Wright from Acton
1:10:42
Middle School and our students over at Acton Middle School are Aaron hubinger
1:10:49
no he heer okay got it sorry Gavin Hutcherson and Le
1:10:56
caloi and Brian [Applause]
1:11:11
Valerio okay one big group oh do you want to say anything too okay I
1:11:19
guess um this is me and Coach R's first year doing Robotics and so just being with these guys were super blessed uh
1:11:25
they worked super hard and uh they qualified through the judges award uh at the Special Olympics um competition in
1:11:32
Austin and so through that we got to go to State and had a lot of fun so I really also want to say to Sandy for all
1:11:39
the hard work she put in with organizing everything across all the campuses getting all the transportation
1:11:44
everything set up for us to be able to go to Austin getting all the um requirements we had to go through behind
1:11:50
the scenes since it's our first year coaching and just her taking over kind of and and getting everything everything
1:11:55
set up for us I mean the help the the work she put in she's not going to say it but if it wasn't for her getting
1:12:00
everything organized then it would be almost impossible for us to do this so Sandy was awesome and thank you very much Sandy for all the work you put
1:12:07
[Applause]
1:12:18
in while they're getting the picture taken I'd like to have some parents standing up and waving you all have done

1:14:31
all right our next presenter is Melissa
1:14:37
ship to present Sydney who is it buram veram borham okay thank you here
1:14:46
she good evening board Dr Glenn thank you for your time tonight um I wanted to
1:14:51
to give a shout out to Sydney tonight it would be really quick but Sydney was one of our occupational therapy interns this
1:14:57
year she then turned perah cuz she didn't get enough of me and bro and decided to finish out her year with us
1:15:03
after her internship ended and the coolest part about it is um she and Sandy um came to me and said you know
1:15:10
Sydney's worked a lot with the kids that are in the motor lab and the motor lab needs some sprucing up and upgrades and
1:15:15
she would like to share some ideas with you I'm like great thinking she's going to just talk to me no she had a full
1:15:21
presentation with photos links to all the items the way to make the room amazing for our kids and not only that
1:15:27
but she said I would like to volunteer my time to do it for Mar bro so in her weekend time because she's working she
1:15:35
has been up at M bro and in the evenings her and Sandy have been working together to um Spruce it up it's not quite done
1:15:40
yet but her vision is definitely coming to light and the kids are loving it and the atmosphere is just completely
1:15:46
different than it was and we love that room for our kids anyway but just to see a spin on it um from somebody from the
1:15:51
outside and their perspective looking in with working with the kids so we are very proud of you and um she will be
1:15:57
leaving us she's going to PT school and so she will not be with us next school year and we're very sad about that but
1:16:02
we are so excited about the Legacy that she's leaving and we look forward to taking a photo of her with our kids and the motor lab and hanging it on the wall
1:16:08
so thank you for all you do thank you so [Applause]
1:16:18
much all right our next presenter is Priscilla Lomas
1:16:31
hello everyone it's me again so uh I came to share results for the science
1:16:39
fair uh from grandury high school we have uh shenise Gibson her research was
1:16:45
on uh teacher stress as a result of all the things that they deal with she
1:16:50
placed uh she placed fourth in the behavioral category at the four Regional science
1:16:58
[Applause] fair then we have Lany Matthews whose
1:17:04
research centered around uh how to help burned um Fields uh especially here in
1:17:13
Granbury where we have a lot of ranchers and a lot of Agriculture whenever you have fields that get burned with all the
1:17:18
wildfires that we had so she actually created and I can't say because it's she's still working on it she created a
1:17:26
concoction that actually helps all that Greenery and all that nature come back
1:17:31
faster and so she plays fourth at uh Regional she was invited to present at
1:17:37
State and at State she plays six in her
1:17:45
category uh up next also from Granbury High School we have Santiago Lumas and
1:17:51
he his research was on using non tonium fluids to help uh impact on the brain
1:17:59
especially in football helmets he plays second in the physics category and he
1:18:05
plays six at [Applause]
1:18:12
State and last but not least from Acton Middle School we have paa Lumas she
1:18:18
played first in her category her research is uh looking at how embryos
1:18:24
are affected when a pregnant mother Vapes uh she identified a gap in the
1:18:30
research not very many people were studying this she plays first in her category she is the best in the Fort
1:18:37
Worth Middle School Regional Fair and then she plays fourth at State uh
1:18:43
recently she was also invited to be a part of a group of 32 middle school
1:18:48
students from the whole nation and she is going to Maryland to go do a week of
1:18:54
just intensive research and learn from other stem professionals so she is one
1:18:59
of 32 in the whole nation to be
1:19:08
chosen thank you so
1:19:14
much and while they're getting their picture taken do we have any proud parents in the audience who would like
1:19:20
to weigh for me [Applause]
1:20:14
[Applause]
1:20:23
all right our next presenter is coach Leah Haley as we go
1:20:32
[Music]
1:20:40
dark who did who went up against light good evening y'all thank you so much for
1:20:47
this opportunity to honor these amazing Granbury High School students I'm Leah Haley one just one because we're going
1:20:52
to let Coach beloo talk to of the very proud coaches that was blessed to coach
1:20:57
these girls this season all four of these girls competed in the 5A division one state powerlifting meet in March and
1:21:04
that is the most that we've ever had compete in state in powerlifting in program history um freshman cat Goodner
1:21:12
wait everybody thank you she is only the second freshman to
1:21:18
ever qualify in program history sophomore esta Diaz who in addition to
1:21:24
be a champion this year is also the first female lifter to medals at State
1:21:29
since
1:21:35
2009 she plays fourth overall we were really excited to see her on the podium
1:21:40
Junior Daisy vigas who dropped down a weight class which she's small I don't know if you can tell so dropping down an
1:21:47
additional weight class is no easy feet and she did that in order to risk a chance to get to State and she did it
1:21:58
and Senior Bella Garcia who this was her first season to ever compete in powerlifting and she made it to State we
1:22:05
sure wish that we could have her for a few more
1:22:13
years so all of these young ladies including Bella even though her her career is complete are currently in the
1:22:20
wait room pretty much every day getting ready for next season because powerlifting season is year round pretty
1:22:28
much um so let's give a hand to these strong owned women who make GISD better
1:22:33
in every [Applause]
1:22:45
way hello uh these three guys right here are extremely strong dedicated young men
1:22:53
that have been not just this year but for uh three and four years of their career and their hard work is finally um
1:23:00
paid off this is Ryland brenish Davin Jones and Enrique Sanchez and uh with
1:23:06
all three of these guys qualifying for state that set a record for us that's the most we've ever had on the boys side
1:23:11
as well as on the girl side so we had a really strong year this year and uh we set 11 different records at Granbury for
1:23:19
um powerlifting and these three gentlemen right here are responsible for probably eight or nine of those
1:23:25
so extremely extremely proud of the work they put in they come up and lift over Thanksgiving break Christmas break
1:23:30
spring break when all their friends are off doing stuff and they're really putting the work in and so it really showed so thank you guys very
1:23:38
much [Applause]
1:23:44
congratulations and while those pictures are being taken do we have any proud parents out there you can raise your
1:23:49
hand [Applause]
1:23:58
all right here we go look here
1:24:40
[Music]
1:24:46
doing as today [Music]
1:24:56
while they leave I do just want to say how much we do appreciate the parents
1:25:01
and what they sacrifice and do to allow these kids to be the outstanding
1:25:08
students that they are so really thank you parents so much for the time
1:25:13
Dedication that you put in to making these students so
1:25:19
great and we are going to now move on to our shoton Kirk s of the month is Brian

1:27:49
evening thank you board for having me I'm excited to honor our leap Academy
1:27:55
graduates leap stands for leadership experiences for aspiring professionals these are our um
1:28:02
instructional Specialists teachers assistant principes or District Personnel who want to give of their own
1:28:08
time so that they can um experience some deeper dives into what um District level
1:28:15
and campus level leadership looks like um we provide them quality learning and coaching experiences with a focus on
1:28:22
individual and organizational growth that we hope that they gain more depth of knowledge in both campus and District
1:28:28
leadership through eight different sessions to be honored tonight they had to attend six of the eight and after
1:28:35
they were had attended three sessions they were assigned a halfday shadow experience with a professional um of
1:28:41
ours so that they could see and we tried to match them with what they were looking at um pursuing as far as
1:28:48
leadership growth for themselves um they've attended at least six like I said dedicating their time
1:28:54
and energy to their own professional growth and learning more about GISD we're grateful for the leaders of our
1:29:00
district who presented or hosted their colleagues to show the details about their everyday activities and duties our
1:29:07
GISD leaders take a team approach to learning and growing and improving our practices together for students and
1:29:12
families so please help me honor the following Professionals for Leap Academy for

Winters thank you all for your dedication to GD let's get a photo
1:31:54
we get some people in the back we
1:32:05
[Music] can maybe you're not expecting
1:32:27
hey and just a just a quick word while uh while everybody's sitting here looking at the uh the LEAP Academy this
1:32:32
is this is our largest cohort that we've had since we started the LEAP Academy I guess probably about six years
1:32:39
ago and uh and when we talk about growing our own administrators in the district it starts right here with the
1:32:46
dedication and hard work of these individuals uh they put in a lot of hours they did a lot of research as Miss
1:32:52
Clark said they spent time shadowing in administrators in the district because they have a deep desire uh to help grow
1:32:58
within our district and so it's definitely something we take seriously and as you look across our district uh
1:33:04
it is littered with administrators who started right here at the Leap Academy so we're proud of each and every one of these individuals and the work that they
1:33:10
put in this year to make this accomplishment possible [Applause]

1:35:00
all right we have one Spotlight left that I look forward to it is the Lamar
1:35:08
Awards and we have the Masonic Lodge reps Dudley Ray Bond and Roger
1:35:22
gains Dr Glenn members of the board thank you very much uh we appreciate you giving us a little bit of time to all
1:35:27
y'all I'm sorry you're going to see this side more often uh it's set up I can't help it um just real quick want to take
1:35:34
just a minut give a little information so those in the back will know what's going on uh in education most of y'all
1:35:41
may or may not know the history of education in the state of Texas you would not be sitting where you are in
1:35:46
the board the president the you know the superintendent if it were not for the Masons in the state of Texas we began
1:35:53
education most of the facilities were done in Masonic lodges and most Educators were paid for the fundraising activities of
1:36:00
the Masonic lodge and when we look through the history of it there's some that some of y'all are not old enough to
1:36:06
know even in the history reference but I'm going to firm out there anyway some famous Masons would be Sam Houston Anson
1:36:12
Jones Lorenzo deala James Fannon William Travis how about George Washington Teddy
1:36:20
Roosevelt Harry Truman my favorite B lives great singer um but they were all
1:36:27
Masons and there were several others and if you look at some of the old comedy teams LA and Hardy Masons and so it's a
1:36:33
lot of fun that we've been so broad but masonry originally started in England
1:36:38
during the days when they building the great cathedrals in France and Europe and there were a guild and the guild had
1:36:44
different stages for for Learning and control and it it proceeded to where now
1:36:51
we are the extension of that we are what's called the esoteric work we are operative but
1:36:57
we're not operative we're the other one and we do not have a secret organization
1:37:02
a lot of people hold there secret Masons nothing about us is secret we're going to advertise we're going to let you know where we are most of you may or may not
1:37:10
know that we give annually throughout the United States $365 million to education throughout this country may
1:37:17
not know but four of the seven or eight burn hospitals are funded totally by Masons and Shriners which which are an
1:37:23
extension of our organization so we're very busy with Phil philanthropic work and that's a very important part of it
1:37:30
and the biggest deal is is we want to give men the opportunity to work with men and become better at what they are
1:37:37
the old biblical saying is it takes man to sharpen steel to sharpen steel it takes men to make men better and that's
1:37:43
no difference to females it is simply a logic that does work and we we encourage
1:37:50
that and work on that a great deal the Lamar award is in honor of our second
1:37:55
president of the state and nation of Texas maribu Lamar and he was an unusual
1:38:02
human being he was very big on education did not like the public education system that he was raised in in Georgia in the
1:38:08
1800s and became a self-educated man world class education in by seing out
1:38:15
teachers to teach him when he moved to Texas he came in here as a businessman as a politician due to the death of his
1:38:22
wife he went back to Georgia while he was there we had a little event here called The Alamo and goad he came back
1:38:29
and was a private in the Army and due to his success on the battlefield they made him a colonel then he was the SEC the
1:38:34
vice president the first voted vice president of the nation of Texas second Texas president during his time as
1:38:42
president very big on education and some of yall may have heard of two little schools he gave the land grant to
1:38:49
they're not real big but right now they're in competition again imagine that
1:38:54
have you heard of Texas Tech or Texas A&M hey easy I'm Steph Stephen F Austin
1:39:01
is now Texas Tech Affiliated so the the money and stuff education is very
1:39:06
important and and the fact that he financially was not a great business manager is secondary his Focus was
1:39:13
education he wanted to be sure people had a chance to learn and so he faced hardships he lost a wife he lost kids he
1:39:20
did a lot of things but he always put education at the front of what he did because believed if you were not educated and prepared you could not
1:39:26
contribute and sustain and so with that being the fact that you had hardships and everything else we go through a
1:39:32
process every year that teachers and parents can nominate and vote for students or other faculty members they
1:39:39
think are honorary of that acknowledgement and so we have
1:39:44
three tonight that we'd like to acknowledge the first is quin King Miss
1:39:49
King is known for her ability to spearhead various initiatives to the local community come on up
1:39:56
[Music] Quinn [Applause]
1:40:01
and Quinn she was real big at organiz organizing and helping with the summer meals programs she's delivered food to
1:40:09
over 30 families she was involved with the Salvation Army ringing the bell activity which that's a very huge deal
1:40:14
she gave over 200 hours of her time to help food drives and food banks and she
1:40:19
read to the kids in elementary school and worked with books over 200 books to first graders during her time doing
1:40:25
these things she's done a lot of things to help students learn how to learn and for that effort we wanted to reward her
1:40:32
with a couple of things a little certificate and I'll do this reach but I'll read this one the marab Lamar award
1:40:39
the second President of the State of Texas has been called the father of Texas public education for leadership in
1:40:45

1:44:22
than turn
1:45:10
we have now finished with my favorite part of any of our board meetings is going through all of these
1:45:16
accomplishments and what our students are doing what our staff is doing it just it's a to me it's the perfect way
1:45:23
to start any of these board meetings but we must move on to the business of the
1:45:28
school district and with that we will start with this superintendent report thank you madam president and uh thank
Superintendent's Report
1:45:36
all of our sponsors some of whom are probably now watching online but we appreciate them being here um a lot
1:45:42
going on this week uh STAR testing is uh in full effect in Grandberry ISD so I know many of our teachers and principes
1:45:47
are busy with that um want to talk a little bit about some uh recognitions uh
1:45:53
congratulations and a shout out to our softball team on making the playoffs uh girls golf went to Regionals uh this
1:46:00
past weekend uh had kids at the state track I'm sorry the regional track meet
1:46:06
uh boys and girls uh so shout out to Coach Brown coach Adams and one student
1:46:11
even Advanced onto the state track meet which will take place in two weeks U
1:46:16
academic team um these are all these are all kids and sponsors we'll probably see
1:46:22
next month but the U academic team finished second in District but what's amazing is accounting took places one
1:46:29
two three and five and also I see our Roc uh uh commanders in back uh Colonel
1:46:37
Casey and for sergeant Rositas they were in Alabama at a shooting match last week and took first and second place which
1:46:43
kind of seems unfair to the other teams but uh but we appreciate what they do
1:46:51
[Applause] our our president said other teams are getting used to it so congratulations
1:46:57
guys uh also shout outs I see our new athletic director Coach Moore in the front shout out to him I know he is
1:47:03
working on setting up communications for parents as we begin to recognize athletes through all programs uh on
1:47:10
social media through new platform and also uh he is revamping our district website uh glad to have him in the
1:47:16
audience thank him for his hard work uh just a reminder to all trustees and those people in the audience uh May is a
1:47:22
busy month so we're going to do STAR testing the next couple of weeks and then may hits and it is going to be fast
1:47:27
and furious uh we have the employee banquet scholarship night uh graduation for stars in the high school top 25
1:47:33
banquet and then numerous athletic Banquets as well so uh we hope you go on to our district website we have all of
1:47:40
those events posted want to make sure that the community teachers staff and of course our trustees are invited to those
1:47:46
things um also uh a final reminder that early voting uh started today and so
1:47:53
early voting uh can be done at the Active Methodist Church or at the Hood County Annex one from 800 to 5 this week
1:47:59
7 to 7 Monday and Tuesday of next week and then election day is uh is May 4th
1:48:04
and Madam president that is the uh monthly report any questions I can answer for you the
1:48:13
trustees I don't see anyone doing anything but shaking their head no so I think we're done thank you very much Dr
1:48:19
Glenn okay moving on to public comment I'm going to read the statement that I
1:48:24
have read the last few months just to make sure everybody is aware to better serve the students and
1:48:31
staff and communities throughout GISD individuals who wish to address the board during the public comments portion
1:48:38
of the board meeting are required to register online the form can be found on the GISD website under the school board
1:48:45
and board meetings tab if anyone lacks the technology necessary to complete the online submission form they can call the
1:48:52
GISD administration building or complete the form in person at the Granbury ISD
1:48:58
administration building registration will be open at the time the meeting agenda is posted which is typically 5:00
1:49:05
p.m. on Friday before the meeting or 72 hours prior to the start of the meeting
1:49:11
registration will close at noon on the day of the meeting please understand that in accordance with Texas law the
1:49:17
board is not able to respond directly to comments or questions posed by the speaker speakers during public comments
1:49:24
therefore Granbury ISD staff members will review all submissions and if necessary reach out to seek resolution
1:49:31
or additional information prior to the meeting since the board cannot
1:49:38
deliberate on any subject that is not included on the agenda the board has scheduled quarterly special meetings to
1:49:45
hear non-agenda items the venue will allow the board to have open discourse with the public and work to resolve
1:49:51
issues through than many programs and experts within the district in this new venue we could
1:49:59
discuss well I I was giving an example
1:50:04
um the next quarterly special meeting is scheduled for and we've changed the date
1:50:10
so please listen Monday May 13th at 5:00 p.m. in the Granbury ISD administration
1:50:17
building we had scheduled it for Memorial Day which doesn't make any sense at all so I have moved it up two
1:50:25
weeks so it'll be on Monday May 13th now going on to public comments we
Open Forum/Public Comment on Agenda Items
1:50:32
have three that signed up today all three signed up for item
1:50:38
11b concerning the forward training center and our first person up is Janine
1:50:44
McGregor
1:50:59
my name is Jane McGregor Miss Mack an award-winning GED teacher who worked at Ford training center from 2020 to
1:51:06
2023 under a contract with DD D ISD recently announced that they will not
1:51:11
have the Hood County GED Grant as of this June 30th so for training center will have to have a new contract if any
1:51:18
I want to address two topics Integrity of numbers admitted by for training center request for funds and support and
1:51:24
treatment of GED students both physical physically abled and disabled I did not
1:51:29
go looking but the following truths fell in my lap revealing a pattern the success of my GE students were ex was
1:51:36
exceptional and surpassed the district's average this data was used on more than one occasion by for training center in
1:51:42
regard to Grant applications then in the fall of 2022 as a new Grant application
1:51:47
was being made for training center director told me that my accurate success numbers would have to be
1:51:53
adjusted and tweaked fearing fraud I reported the incident to an outcry
1:51:58
witness who stated that the same thing happened to them the 2023 report in my hand was found as trash on the floor
1:52:06
during cleanup it shows the forward Training Center board report with an inaccurate number of GED students served
1:52:11
by forward Training Center about three times the actual amount on March 14th
1:52:17
2023 at a county commissioner's meeting the Ford Training Center Director asked for money but falsely reported a number
1:52:24
that was 2 and a half times the actual number those served I know because I was in charge of the real numbers whether
1:52:30
through deception or just incompetency the IRS considers this fraud the relationship between JD and Ford
1:52:37
Training Center is very political past School Board member McDonald's is on the board of directors of forward Training
1:52:43
Center the place where election signs for Townson and McDonald were delivered and picked up forward training center
1:52:49
director and jsd Townson were involved in politically based false accusations that disrupted the GED classes I have
1:52:56
the emails as proof I have received a letter from past president Harrington representing the GISD school board and
1:53:03
her opinion without discussion with all board members or having an agenda item she gave Townsen and the Ford Training
1:53:09
Center all clear yet no one here asked my students what happened and no one has
1:53:15
asked for the emails then for training center had didn't ISD close my GED class
1:53:20
because as trained I was refused to move my severely handicapped students to an unsafe outer building the Hood County
1:53:27
Safety Officer versed in tea requirements verified my position no one
1:53:32
seemed to care my class was cancelled my students were left hanging with GED completion deadlines ahead some
1:53:39
community members helped me lead most of the rejected students to success one is now in college on the honor rooll four
1:53:46
Training Center hurt my GED students with their Antics before you asked the public to accept your relationship with
1:53:52
forward Training Center I suggest a required thorough audit as well as on
1:53:57
Integrity checklist for GISD and forward Training Center thank you for your
1:54:02
[Music]
1:54:10
time next up is Lori Lily
1:54:16
[Music]
1:54:32
good evening board I first want to thank you uh tremendously for
1:54:38
educating supporting and caring for our youth I have been working uh with
1:54:44
forward training center for six years now but we are introducing some um new
1:54:53
ideas new ways of thinking and I believe Jim is going to be presenting the
1:54:59
overview but I'm going to just take the part that I feel is very important for
1:55:05
Our Stars students um we change lives and we see um what the students
1:55:14
can be we let them know uh in the beginning the class is all about them
1:55:23
and as we do this it's about Hope and dignity well I found that okay they have
1:55:33
to really um they can't do what they can't
1:55:38
see and so for them to see they really need to have the opportunity to meet
1:55:47
people to have resources so I have spent time in excuse me doing that and as I
1:55:55
look through the resources I found this is kind of hard to find for each
1:56:01
individual the different things that they need well so as I I was called it Dialing for
1:56:10
resources and um so we I decided Well let's look at a
1:56:17
um what should I say a community resource document I'm met with uh United
1:56:24
Way and they collab we collaborated together on okay how can we bring these
1:56:31
resources to the community and what I discovered was well
1:56:37
we need a website so we're working on that and we're working at bringing
1:56:45
a task force with other nonprofits profits to be able to to really identify
1:56:55
and work together to bring those to each student and we're very very successful
1:57:01
and we want to continue that thank
1:57:11
[Applause] you and our last uh public comments will
1:57:17
be by Mr Jim Lily
1:57:28

think wow this is amazing it it just doesn't get better than this and every month I'm surprised by the support it's
2:05:30
just overwhelming and I'm honored to be able to recognize the different
2:05:37
organizations and people that support this amazing school district and our amazing students um with that I would
2:05:44

2:07:58
I am continually amazed at the generosity of this community and I just
2:08:06
uh can't thank them enough and it
2:08:11
also I believe means that our community feels that we're doing the right thing
2:08:18
with our kids and so I appreciate that so with that I ask for a motion to

2:08:47
stuff on consent agenda but I know a lot of teachers watch from at home uh in the consent agenda tonight there was a a
2:08:53
calendar change that turns the last day of school into an early release day so I
2:08:59
know that's important to our staff no one else probably proba kids kids
2:09:06
too all right we are now moving on to our discussion and action items first up
Discussion/Action
2:09:13
uh consider approval of purchase of beaver fit workout station Mr Whitefield
2:09:19
thank you madam president board in front of you do have the uh memo for the purchase of the beaverfit performance Locker um it does have a quote on the
2:09:26
back of it the purchase of this was going to be done with donation funds and the purchase will be $63,500
2:09:37
[Music]
2:09:51
give us a rundown of what this does because I'm just amazed at the picture I'm seeing in front of me yes ma'am so
2:09:58
sit I don't like to use a mic so bear with me I think I'm loud enough but um essentially what it is is Bieber fit
2:10:05
designed a workout Locker uh for military personnel when we would deploy overseas so basically everything that we
2:10:12
needed to work out was in a container and it would it could be shipped it could put be put aboard ship and shipped
2:10:17
over or flown over however it needed to get into country and then the service members would get everything out conduct
2:10:23
their workouts when they were done everything would go on back in the box and it was able to come back so it's the same concept here uh we're just looking
2:10:30
to do that for our Cadets something for them to call it their own and also to help uh you know alleviate some of the
2:10:36
traffic in the weight room so uh there's times in the weight rooms where you get six seven uh you know athletic teams in
2:10:41
there working out along with our kids our our physical fitness team continues to grow um and so get congested in the
2:10:47
weight room so hopefully having this piece of equipment will alleviate some the traffic in the weight room but it's
2:10:53
a functional fitness uh you know um piece of equipment so kids can do pull-ups they can do weightlifting they
2:10:59
can do um a lot of body weight stuff and and it's just really easy to to
2:11:05
access go ahead this is something that you we lock up each night and where are we thinking
2:11:12
of putting this so uh right now the discussions are putting it behind the band stance since there's already a
2:11:18
fenced in area there uh putting it there we need a 26x 28 space around the Box uh
2:11:24
cuz it has some pullup bars and riggings that are attached to it so uh we we've measured it off and there's space there
2:11:30
and it's a secured area uh so that's a you know that's one course of action uh another course of action would be to put
2:11:37
it next to the uh fenc in area there's a green uh space there uh that would
2:11:42
require some con laying of concrete and uh you know fencing around it but hopefully we can put it in behind the
2:11:47
Bandstand there excellent yes ma'am good yeah and and again I see you and your
2:11:53
Cadets out there working every every day so it's it's definitely something you guys will utilize um I'm looking at
2:11:59
everything on here what is a what is a landmine like I recognize every exercise on here but that one yes sir so we have
2:12:06
those inside the uh inside the Pavilion as well inside the weight room but essentially it's a stationary
2:12:13
um oh gosh I don't put it in terms here it's a it's a piece of metal where you can put the weight bar inside and you're
2:12:19
pressing from the floor so the place to put the weight bar on the floor and you can do PR gotcha yes sir
2:12:27
perfect any other questions any of the other board members have this thing looks awesome we're
2:12:35
excited we're excited so well I think it's great and just the fact that you had uh people in our community that were
2:12:42
willing to donate enough money so we can have this is just it it just talks to
2:12:47
the outstanding um program that you have here so thank you so much thank you
2:12:53
thank [Applause]
2:13:00
you all right with that do I have a motion to accept Madam president I move
2:13:07
that the board approved the so Source purchase from beaverfit North America per the attached quote is presented
2:13:15
thank you Mr libery do I have a second second thank
2:13:20
you Miss score all those in favor raise your hand all right 70 thank you very
2:13:27
much board moving on mou with forward training center for the provision of
2:13:33
jobs for Life empowered for Life programs that Empower employment and economic independence Miss Clark thank
2:13:41
you so the mission for forward Training Center is to educate support and Inspire life-changing growth in men and women
2:13:47
and our partnership that they're seeking with us tonight aims to provide our GISD high school students and all parents and
2:13:54
guardians of GISD the opportunity to engage with forward training center and some meaningful educational programming
2:14:01
on site outside of the regular school day or within the constraints of our accelerated learning environment at ghs
2:14:08
so power for life is geared towards our high school students and with parent permission they'll engage in two
2:14:13
sessions a week after school hours over the course of eight weeks in the curriculum that focuses on overcoming
2:14:20
roadblocks conflict resolution resumés customer service satisfaction I gave you
2:14:26
a whole list I'm not going to read it to you um the jobs for life is voluntary of
2:14:31
adult program geared towards interested parents and guardians of GISD students or GISD staff so two times a year once
2:14:38
in the fall in the spring they would offer this course after hours for eight weeks two sessions per week um focusing
2:14:45
on their jobs for Life programming and uh the opportunity for our students will be with parent
2:14:51
permission will not take away from their coursework or their studies our partnership is simply for an addition of
2:14:56
resources for our students and families if they so choose to participate and we will give them a
2:15:02
space to do it and I if you read theou you saw that we would also um house some
2:15:07
of their um their applications and and provide that space for students to turn
2:15:13
in applications and get them to them so that they would know the interest of our student body so I have Monica Hayes here
2:15:20
the executive director if you have any questions about powered for life or jobs for Life specifically but it is
2:15:26
recommended that the board approve theou with forward training center for the provision and administration of
2:15:31
voluntary empowered for Life programming for our high school students and jobs for Life programming for all interested
2:15:37
parents or guardians of GISD
2:15:43
students um in there and I've already talked to you about it but I think it's good for everyone to understand who are
2:15:50
listening out there somewhere what is a sar student s o a r so our sore lab um
2:15:57
sometimes students come to us transferring in and they're lacking some credits or sometimes there are students
2:16:03
who have had some hard times whether they're self-imposed or other but have
2:16:09
made them um not successful in their classwork and so we our sore lab is an
2:16:14
accelerated lab um that they can um take one or two credits or you know three CR
2:16:20
credits and accelerate through an online program much like we have at stars but
2:16:26
get back on track and stay at ghs and be able to still participate in all of the
2:16:31
things that ghs has so that's for the student who doesn't want to accelerate all the way through they might just need to um get some credits there so it's an
2:16:39
accelerated learning environment within the constraints of ghs thank you very much were there any
2:16:45
other questions that anyone had and this will be made available to Star students um and their parents as well star
2:16:52
students already have access to um this as one of their electives as far as the
2:16:58
power for Life jobs for life we're going to open up for any GISD students parent
2:17:03
um we'll just house it at the high school after hours okay um once in the fall and once in the spring giving them
2:17:10
a space so it's their programming it's their people it's our space and a
2:17:16
program for our students and our families thank you miss m yes ma'am I
2:17:22
have a few questions on this I read it over thoroughly um I see that it's already been um signed in approved by
2:17:29
the superintendent on the 4th your signature back here on the on
2:17:36
the back on the fourth yeah it's not you're you're looking at an old old copy so until it's
2:17:44
until it's approved until it's approved by the board it's not going to go into effect okay yes um what will be the
2:17:51
additional cost to uh GISD for this program so I mean if you consider
2:17:57
opening the facility an additional cost that would be it we're opening the facility for um partnering with with
2:18:04
forward training center and letting their use our space two times a week after school hours okay but we're going
2:18:10
to need to be providing security and escorts and we'll have extra Administration the security is not
2:18:16
absolutely necessary after school hours that's not part of the house build three and no escorts in and out of the
2:18:24
building it would be after hours so they would be responsible for their in and
2:18:29
out of the building at that point who'll be locking up the building and who's going to be um we can either put it on
2:18:36
the um timer or we could there is rarely a day that the high school
2:18:43
administration isn't there so we'll just make sure that we're at a point where um
2:18:48
often times there's after school to tutorials that are also in session so it'll be a a scheduling part on mine and
2:18:57
Mr Robinson's part to make sure that that's taken care of good question has
2:19:03
someone conducted a survey of the parents to determine their interest no we have not okay um how can
2:19:10
we plan on how many people there's going to be in the interest in the numbers if we don't really have any idea so forward
2:19:17
trading center has I asked them about numbers and I can have Miss Hayes come up but um a lot of their classes are
2:19:24
very very small and um and giving each person pretty much individualized very
2:19:30
small group attention so even if it's a small group of people who are um
2:19:36
interested uh we are just providing the opportunity yeah the the high the high
2:19:41
school holds more more than enough can't imagine more than 2,000 kids are going to be interested so it's we're going to
2:19:47
have capacity for it um I think again it's a it's a niche program looking for
2:19:53
kids that are just needing a little extra support uh we've had a successful relationship with a for training center
2:19:59
as it relates to stars and uh we'd like to continue the relationship uh moving
2:20:04
forward so in answer your question this right here this document uh typically they'll bring documents to me and I'll
2:20:09
sign them Board gets approved and Mr Wimberly has a folder and if it's executed by the board then it moves
2:20:15
forward if it's not then it's shredded so hopefully that answers your question about the signature thank you than you
2:20:21
want to add anything to that um no we we we we had a similar start with the with
2:20:27
the Stars program where it was a um we didn't know what the interest would be or what the numbers would be and it just
2:20:33
kind of Grew From uh organically uh with the initial offering and anticipate that
2:20:40
this would go the same way I would like to add not exactly relative to this but
2:20:45
just to give kudos to uh granberry ISD and the work that's already been done
2:20:50
within and stars and Premiere the curriculum comes from job to life National which is uh based in Raleigh
2:20:57
North Carolina and has had such success here in launching the power for Life
2:21:04
program in the manner in which it was intended that uh both the uh principles
2:21:10
from each of those schools were invited to attend a forum and meeting with the
2:21:17
entire um Wally actually Forest School District uh
2:21:22
system to see um how they might be able to implement that there because of the success that was held here so it um it
2:21:30
has has done very well here and gotten National Rec recognition with the maos for
2:21:35
Life uh organization yeah yeah I understand and I looked it up and I read
2:21:40
about it sounds very good but if we're not going to have that many especially initially why are we going to open up
2:21:47
the school district when forward training has their own building we we are well we are welcome I mean we
2:21:53
are happy to do that it would just thought it would be easier and more
2:21:59
accessible for the students of the high school to do it here so um it was just more of a of a convenience accommodation
2:22:07
for the students that might be inv interested and involved the students I understand but there is a portion of this that I read that says that the
2:22:14
parents will be at the school and the students will be at forward training shouldn't that be the other way around
2:22:20
oh oh not that I'm aware I I I thought it was all at the
2:22:25
school well the Stars will still be over at your building stars are at our
2:22:31
building yes and that that's during the day U yeah Monday through Thursday during the
2:22:36
week okay um so I guess if we're not going to have any security and it's going to be after hours and people can
2:22:43
just walk into the building then there won't be anybody going through the Raptor
2:22:48
system after hours we would not have people Raptor in so which is pretty common after hours
2:22:57
okay yeah you know where I'm going with that because I went in and called and told him I was coming in the summer
2:23:04
during the day and I had to go through the Raptor system on page 28 on the
2:23:10
background screenings has uh GISD ever specifically defined what is a
2:23:15
disqualifying criminal history that would be West a dis what's
2:23:22
a disqual disqualifying criminal history do we have any copy do we have a policy
2:23:28
on that what is it that would
2:23:44
disqualify turn your microphone on Mr Jones um are there I guess the fon and
2:23:50
things those would be criminal histories that are automatically disqualified yes they would not be able to be
2:23:56
hired okay um and then so forward training is going to provide background
2:24:03
checks we do background checks on every single student and volunteer and staff member
2:24:09
that that comes to our door and do our background do their background checks go with our background
2:24:16
checks our for our employees yes would be the same background checks for what
2:24:22
they're doing as what you do uh as far as them teaching our students after school I'm not
2:24:29
sure it's a voluntary program yeah so parents would be signing for them to be
2:24:35
able to be a part part of that so Wes would not be responsible for any of the
2:24:41
background checks for training center is taking responsibility for the students
2:24:46
during that time have we looked at their background checks I have not looked at their background
2:24:52
text no okay on page 28 parent participants with criminal histories are
2:24:58
not prohibited I understand um this was a great program and it's going to offer
2:25:03
much needed educational opportunities for our parents I am uh understand this
2:25:10
conceptually however we need to be uh cognizant of our Safety and Security of our students in our property we're going
2:25:16
to have extra students there afterwards we're going to have no security there
2:25:21
we're not going to have any escorts people just kind of come and go as they
2:25:27
want it would likely be in the library so there would be like a start time
2:25:32
people would go together to the library with the teacher that forward Training
2:25:38
Center would have and then they would all likely leave at the same time so no i' not having security paid
2:25:47
security for that time okay but um um depending on what these criminal
2:25:53
histories are that we and we don't know they will be involved in our schools and be in with
