Checklist for choosing a financial advisor in South Carolina

I just want to be the absolute best Financial Advisor here in South Carolina, and the way we are going about being the best is a checklist I believe can help you find the right advisor for you.

I feel that many financial advisors out there right now are glorified salespeople. They sell annuities. They tow the company line. They say, "Hey, put all your money in this managed account because our CFA’s and our portfolio managers are God's gift to investing."

What I think you should look for in a good financial advisor in South Carolina is really just a list of things that we do.

I believe a good financial advisor should know a heck of a lot about healthcare.

They should be able to help you design your estate planning documents. That's something that we announced earlier this year. We'll put a will or a trust together for you free of charge if you work with our firm.

Go ask a estate planning attorney what the cost of a will or a trust is. This is a product that we're offering to our clients through an organization that we have on retainer to populate these documents for our clients.

Taxes; I think your financial advisor should know a lot of about taxes. We help people with their tax planning. We sink our teeth into your tax return.

And then only after those boxes are checked, then we start talking about retirement and putting together a living breathing document that gives you permission to spend your money.

We operate as fiduciaries. So it's not my job to sell a product or some sort of annuity that generates a huge commission.

It's my job to piece together all the different financial instruments that are available to us, educate you about the pros and the cons, and piece together a living breathing written plan.
