Welcome back to the Perilous World Radio show, where today's hosts, Alan and Jan Masters, are discussing the importance of humility in our lives. It's a critical ingredient for success, as pride and arrogance can prevent us from seeing the flaws in ourselves and making necessary changes.
Humbling experiences are essential for personal growth and often mark the beginning of our search for meaning. Unfortunately, society often glorifies pride and ego instead of humility. In my own life, Alan has learned the value of taking the humble path, rather than being the hammer that strikes. As the old saying goes, "I'd rather be a nail than a hammer," because when you're humble, you're open to learning and growing.
It's natural to feel angry when something humiliating threatens your self-image. But have you ever considered the difference between "humiliation" and "being humbled"? To be truly humble, one would never say they were humiliated. Instead, they would say they were humbled. Why? Because being humbled is not the same as being humiliated. It's important to set our pride aside if we want to navigate through life with ease.
The crux of the matter is salvation, which hinges on one's concern for their soul. Practicing humility and the like only make sense if you care about your redemption. Pride, ego, and the other deadly sins are the antithesis to this way of life. The choice is between a sinful existence and one that is characterized by a higher nature, leading to a transformative experience.
