Horrific Broken Leg From Parachute Landing

''This took place at a Florida Canopy Piloting Association (FLCPA) competition. hat particular day, we were faced with a heavy head-wind. I had a great setup for that run and smoothly manuevered through the course. As I approached the end of the pond, my speed was significantly decreasing. Instead of carving to the right and finishing the Speed Course, I decided to continue on a straight path and attempt to land on the grass. At the last second, I knew I was going to land in the end of the pond, but would still have enough speed to slide up on the grass. Unfortunetely the end of the pond at Skydive Sebastian, does not have a gradual slope at the end, but a lip instead. The water level was also low at that time, making the lip more pronounced. As my feet slid through the water, I managed to pick my left foot up high enough to go up and slide on the grass. My right foot went under the water and caught the lip, as my body's momentum continued forward. As you can see in the video, those variables resulted with my leg being snapped at the knee like a twig. As I was slumped over in the pond, I was kept calm and had my broken and bent leg held by, Greg Windmiller, a famous World champion and World record holder for canopy piloting. Since the accident, I have endured two lengthy surgeries. Both surgeries were mainly to stabilize and repair the damaged popliteal artery, which supplies blood to the lower leg. Nearly every strand of ligament was severed in the dislocation. I am preparing for one or more surgeries to fix the torn ligaments. Currently an external fixture is screwed into the leg bones, in order to keep the leg straight and give it support.
