Spiritual Warfare Daily - Episode 18: 4.28.2024 - Your motives matter

Motives are everything.
Motives are at the heart of prayer and Spiritual Warfare.
Jesus had clear motives – to do what He saw His Father doing and destroy the works of Satan.

Psalm 139:23;
1 Thes 2: 4: B
James 4:3

EVEN PASTORS ARE GUILTY – Phil 1:15: “some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill. 16 – The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not csincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains – but the latter out of love knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel

This is why the Bible says to die to self, pick up your cross, intercede for others, set the captives free – because our motives MUST become Jesus’ motives.

Acts 5 – Ananias and Saphira

We’re supposed to have clear motives to follow Christ, become sons of God, become discipled, create other disciples, intercede on the behalf of others and destroy the works of Satan in both spirit and human form as people sent under authority.

Nothing stop prayer from being answered more than bad motives.
Nothing destroys moves of God faster than the wrong motives.

The enemy operates with pride for selfish gain.
Witchcraft is more about self-preservation than blessing, equipping and benefiting others.

To approach the throne for God to punish and destroy evil for selfish gain is witchcraft under a false banner of Christianity that doesn’t exist, because you approach Jesus like a vending machine and the throne room like a charlatan, rather than in humility and boldness because you’re abiding in God and He calls you sons and daughters.

Let’s do a health check of our perspective, prayer and motives:

HIGH LEVEL – are they your motives or God’s?
- Is it personal or biblical?
- Are you asking God about it, or telling Him what you want with/for/against/about it?
Who benefits?
- Not just immediate, but long term
- Is there a mixed benefit?
- Does prayer answered favorably allow you to live in sin or with ongoing unforgiveness or bitterness?

Perspective:
Is this more for you or for others?

Prayer:
Do you follow the structure of prayer?
- Father, in jesus name
- Make the request, make it clear
- Justify why

Do you tell God why you’re asking?
- Do you say the quiet parts out loud or think you can hide and withhold it?
- Are you saying your motives are _____ but really they’re _____ and you think God doesn’t already know?

THE BEST PART –
The question and discussion of motives isn’t just about us asking God – but how we walk around thinking, feeling and doing life as it relates to being Christ followers.

The world is calling B.S. on our motives and we have an opportunity to put our faith on display.

TO THE OPPOSITE:
1 Corinthians 12:31

The Gift of the discerning of spirits – this allows us to see the spiritual motivation behind everything around us including People, businesses, schools, municipalities, institutions, organizations,, governments, movements, nations and Satan himself.

BUT THE GIFTS ARE MEANT FOR THE BODY OF CHRIST and the Church TO BE EDIFIED, not that you can parade around like a good Christian or gain personally.

The bottom line – check yourself.
