FIRENZE, (Canzone triste)! 4k

Dedicated to the city of Florence, the song tells the story of a lost love. Set in an autumnal and melancholic Florence, the song follows a man as he retraces the places of a past and lost love. The story revolves around three characters: university students in Florence. It is a continuous dialogue between the protagonist and the Irish philosophy student, Barbarossa, both left without the love of the contested woman. The latter is portrayed throwing her drawings into the Arno and threatening to leave Florence.
The city of Florence becomes a kind of mirror of the protagonist's soul, assuming the appearance of a silent and complicit muse. The protagonist, lonely and nostalgic, confronts the memories and emotions of a time, reliving the beauty and suffering of his relationship.
The song can be read as a metaphor for disillusionment and the loss of innocence. Florence represents an ideal of beauty and perfection that, once shattered, leaves a sense of emptiness and bitterness. The theme of the journey, present in the song, alludes to the path of growth and self-discovery that the protagonist undertakes through the experience of pain.
